A pretty Victorian Valentine card with a lace border is
the inspiration for this panel. Many of these Valentine cards had a central
floral motif with layers of paper lace bordering the motif. The rose motif here is adapted
from a piece of 19th Century Berlin work. This
Pink Valentine Rose panel has been designed to
fit neatly into the sleeve of a Clippy Cover Girl Bag, but of course it could be
used in a variety of decorative projects. We
have made two versions of this Valentine card - the Pink Valentine Rose seen
here and A Mauve Valentine Rose.
So you could make one
panel for each side of the Clippy bag, or a pretty pair of pictures to frame.
Both designs can be purchased together at a discounted price. This
particular design is worked on a 7 Count plastic
canvas, in cross stitch.
This stitch is explained in the downloaded materials. Stitching in cross
stitch on this plastic canvas gives a raised effect which gives the rose a
pleasing slightly three dimensional appearance. The
panel measures 22cm (8.6 inches) by 29.5cm (11.7inches). These
designs on plastic canvas are very easy to stitch. There is no background to
be stitched, just the main motifs and so a design like this can be completed
in a few evenings. There are 12 different shades of wool used in this
design, and full details of the shades are included. Once
the design is finished a coloured sheet of card, material or foam is placed
behind the canvas to provide the contrasting colour. You can change these sheets
from time to time to suit your mood or to match your outfit. It is also fun to
decorate the finished needlework further by stitching pieces of old lace,
buttons, or other accessories to the canvas, to make your own original work of
art! I think it would also be nice to create a layered effect by having a
lighter coloured backing panel behind the rose and darker colour behind the
