The Robin
The robin is one of
our favourite native birds. One of its attractions is that it is very
territorial. Once a family of robins decide to nest in your garden they
may stay for many years.
It's a
cheerful sight on a dark winter's day to see a robin flying around
your garden.
Somehow the robin has
become associated with Christmas, as you can see from these old cards, which
all contain Christmas greetings.
In
the 19th Century postmen wore red coats so perhaps the robin was thought
to resemble the people who delivered these seasonal messages. We hope
you enjoy looking at these antique images.
An
antique postcard that was originally sent as a Christmas card.
It's
time for some Nature study!
Do you
know what the word 'joyous' means? (It means 'full of joy, or
happiness').
And
what is the name of the plant with the red berries? Holly of course. As
I am writing this I can see a pigeon sitting on the holly in my garden,
eating all the berries!

pages of the same greetings card.

Two choirs of singing robins!
