Household Linens

These bedspreads were printed by hand in various colour combinations.

'Antimacassars ' or chair-backs', as they are also known, were used to protect furniture from staining. They got this strange name because in Victorian times it was fashionable for men to put 'macassar' oil on their hair and this marked the backs of chairs.

A valance is a length of material that goes  around the bottom of a bed. They are also sometimes used as small curtains.

These cushion covers were available in a variety of sizes.

I think these covers were used to keep dirt and dust off the clothes when motoring. Of course in those days motor cars were open to the wind, rain and car fumes.

An attractive linen embroidered tea cloth.
