| These
pictures were taken in the week before Christmas at a small local museum
in north London called Church Farmhouse Museum. Every Christmas they
decorate one of their rooms for a Victorian Christmas. The furniture
remains there on display all year but they add all the decorations and
toys. This is the sort of Christmas celebration a middle-class family
would have had around 1850. The room is decorated with holly and ivy
from the garden. By this date the Christmas tree had been introduced
from Germany and become very popular due to the influence of Queen
Victoria's German husband Prince Albert. |
