This old enamel chart lists some of the many items a household would need to run smoothly. Each item has a switch next to it which could be moved to indicate that the item should be included on the next shopping list. Can you work out what they all are? There are a few that are a bit obscure and some where the words are too long to fit into the space provided.

'Dentifrice' was the trade name of a type of toothpaste. 'Blue' was a substance that was put in the wash to make clothes whiter! 'Mantles' were actually 'Gas Mantles' and were used when homes had gas lighting. 'Gravy Browning' was used to make a gravy to pour over meat. I think you should be able to work out most of the others with a bit of persistence and good eyesight! |
