As you
can see from the illustration, the fashion for the summer season of 1926
was all for glitter and pearls. Wealthy ladies heading for the
fashionable resorts of the south of France would cover themselves from
head to toe in jewels, both real and fake. Diamante was used on
headbands, bracelets, bags, shoe buckles and compacts. Pearls were worn
in long strings draped around the neck. The bags they carried were
exquisite; made of fine pearls, tapestry and beadwork, decorated with
the new Art Deco designs. Flimsy shawls of lace or gauze and large
velvet roses completed the look.
